TICK CONTROL

Ticks are notorious for carrying diseases

The most common ticks in Oklahoma include the American dog tick, the brown dog tick, the lone star tick, and the black-legged tick. Ticks transmit a greater diversity of disease-causing organisms to wildlife, domesticated animals and humans than any other vector arthropod. Ticks are also known to cause paralysis, toxicosis and allergic reactions. Tick bites can cause dermatitis (an itching, swelling, inflamed condition of the skin) on the host. In animals, the loss of blood can cause secondary anemia and sometimes death. Most of the tick’s life is spent in the off-host environment seeking a host. Some tick life stages are able to survive for a few years without finding a host and taking a blood meal. A female tick can lay up to 6,500 egss at once.

Can I DIY tick control myself?

The hard truth is that Ticks are hard to control. There are preventative measures you can take when outdoors and for your pets. It's important a licensed and trained pest control technician provides any tick control treatment. If done yourself and improper, it can cause the infestation to worsen and be harmful to yourself, children and pets.

Consult your vert

If you suspect your pets have ticks, it's important your vet is consulted immediately. Not only is it dangerous for your pet, but these disease carrying insects can easily begin feeding on you.

FLEA CONTROL

Did you know?

Fleas are a common problem for your pets, but did you know they also will feed on humans? Fleas can live up to two weeks without a blood meal, but will jump from host to host feeding. They're motivated feeders because they can't lay eggs unless they feed. A female flea lays an average of 40 eggs per day. Fleas can cause flea allergies, diseases, and can transmit parasites such as tapeworms. A flea infestation is a common summer infestation but is possible in the winter too.

Can I DIY flea control myself?

Unfortunately, fleas are hard to get rid of unless done right. If not done correctly, a flea infestation can become worse and even harm your pets. A licensed and trained technician should be the only one to spray pesticides inside your home around children and pets. In addition to a pest control spray, it's imperative pets are fully treated for fleas in order to fully get rid of fleas.

Consult your vert

If you suspect your pets have fleas, it's important your vet is consulted immediately. A flea infestation on your animals will cause them to itch and irritate their skin, they transmit infectious diseases and can even transmit parasites like tapeworms. If not treated in a timely manner, your pets could suffer drastically.
